Hispanics in Philanthropy (HIP) is a transnational network of grantmakers committed to strengthening Latino communities across the Americas. HIP connects and convenes funders, nonprofits, researchers, and other leaders to identify emerging needs among Latinos as well as best practices for responsive and effective funding of social change. HIP pioneers new philanthropic models by leading collaborative initiatives and has provided grants and training to help build the capacity of more than 800 organizations and leaders.

  

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Strategic Partnerships, the Development Associate will lead HIP’s prospect identification process for donors across all pillars and for the organization’s operations and agency-wide initiatives, including research and donor qualification analysis, prospect tracking in Salesforce, delivering donor/funder briefings, assisting program staff with funder meeting prep, developing systems and processes to support HIP’s prospecting needs. The Development Associate will also lead and/or support special initiatives and projects led by the Development and Membership team. This could include supporting Membership outreach, Salesforce implementation, short-term development projects, other research as needed, etc. 

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop a prospect management system to a high degree of sophistication, especially for relationship tracking and reporting;
  • Create strategies for identifying new prospects in line with HIP’s needs broadly, and for each pillar of work;
  • Create and manage a portfolio management process to measure metrics and progress of program and development staff on Salesforce;
  • Lead regular prospect review meetings;
  • In collaboration with the Development team, conduct gift pyramid and prospect pipeline analysis to assess current and future prospects needed to achieve fundraising goals;
  • Build, track, analyze and report on all prospect activities;
  • Provide prospect profiles, including assessment of wealth and philanthropic interests (or grant-making criteria);
  • Provide high quality briefings to program and development staff on donors and prospects in advance of meetings and events;
  • Develop assessment and measurement strategies and methods to report on the effectiveness of prospect activity;
  • Develop and lead projects to streamline and improve internal systems and processes;
  • Write detailed reports and briefings for prospect identification;
  • Maintain robust and effective working relationships with HIP colleagues, especially team-leads of different work streams to assure understanding of their funding needs and the types of funders most likely to support their work;
  • Evaluate existing and new research resources to ensure that the most effective tools are available and utilized;
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of progressive fundraising experience, preferably including prospect and research experience, management of special events, stewardship programs; 
  • Demonstrated experience writing complex material including prospect research and briefings;
  • Experience with donors acquisition, engagement and retention;
  • Ability to participate in all aspects of the organization and synthesize and translate what you learn verbally and in writing; 
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to juggle multiple deadlines and work streams with speed and accuracy;
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships across departments and work remotely with virtual teams across the U.S. and in Mexico City; 
  • Ability to travel occasionally and comply with related COVID-19 organizational policies.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position requires 7+ hours per day sitting and working from your computer. This position may be a remote position or based out of the Oakland, CA office. Some travel will be required. Employees are required to comply with health and safety measures consistent with CDC guidelines, and federal, state, and local regulations.
